Ultrapure water system, EDI
Water Purifier for Pharmaceutical industry, EDI
EDI stands for Electro De-Ionization. Is the system that produces pure water using the same method as DI (De-Ionization) system. But the main difference between DI and EDI is DI system use chemical to regenerate the resin inside while EDI system uses electric potential to simultaneous regenerate the resin.
You can learn how EDI works from the video below
Production of Pure Water
Ultra pure water can be produced by many methods, the original method and the most popular is DI system. This method the DI resin will absorb all of the ionic substance in water sometimes we use RO system to help reduce the ionic load. When the DI resin is saturated. It will need to be regenerated with acid and base. Which you need to do it very often. To fix this inconvenient the EDI system was created. EDI system uses electric potential to regenerate the resin, therefore, reduce the process and storage area for the chemical use in the regeneration process.
How does EDI system works?
How EDI work: Using Electric potential polarity at both sides of EDI system Anode and Cathode with Mixed Resin between them. When water passes through Cation resin and Anion resin. The ion in water will be absorbed by Resin. Positive ion will move to the anode side and Negative ion will move to the cathode side. The ions will be moved by electric potential to the concentrate chamber and then drain out as concentrate
